The topic that I am choosing to explore is the topic of education. It is relevant to our lives today because, in the current elections, Hillary Clinton is the clear favorite for academics and has received tremendous support from education organizations.
The top donors in this organization are two rival ivy league schools, Yale and Harvard. Yale has given Hillary Clinton’s campaign about $95,000, making it her 4th largest contributor. Also, in 2008, Harvard Law School donated to Obama’s campaign an astounding $900,000. The University of California public school systems donated $1.3 million for Obama’s campaign in 2012 and now support Clinton’s campaign with more than $80,000.
The people receiving the most education funds in the campaigns are primarily Democrats. In the previous presidential cycle, education donors raised $64.5 million, and “more than three-quarters of their contributions went to Democratic candidates.” This is a clear indication that, in order to gain more funds and support from the people, education should be emphasized in your campaign, even more if you are a Republican candidate.
They were so heavily funded because these organizations want to grow themselves and expand with the help of the candidate. Since the President has lots of power, they can better education systems, and this is motivation for donors to keep supporting them with more funds so they can have a bigger influence if their party is elected.
In recent news, I found that Hillary Clinton is currently leading the presidential field in donations from education organizations with $1.2 million. She has gotten lots of funds and continues to have this industry as one of her top supporters in terms of finances.
